What is learning organization? According to John (2011), learning organization is an organization that ‘by virtue of people, values and systems is able to continuously change and improve its performance based upon the lessons of experience’. In this essay, we will discuss about why is it critical for Disney to be a learning organization. There are three reasons that we will list out at this essay which are leadership, teamwork, and also culture.

First and foremost, as a learning organization like Disney it is important to have the leadership skill. The most critical skill a leader must have is to be able to make decisions; leadership is all about having a vision of where you want to belong and making decisions along the way to get closer to achieving this vision. To successfully achieving this vision the leader will need to face many problems; therefore, effective problem solving is also another important leadership skill. As a good leader, they will not be afraid of facing problems. With a positive attitude, problems can become opportunities and learning experiences. A leader’s biggest asset is information as the more information a leader possesses about the how to achieve the vision or individual goals along the way, the more the leader learns about the direction needed to get there. Problems provide information and therefore good problem solving is a very powerful skill for the leader. For example, under the leadership of Michael Eisner that Disney has become an entertainment conglomerate. He had successfully achieved the vision of Disney. Nowadays, Disney’s global reach includes six theme parks, book publishing, cruise ships, TV and radio networks, Broadway theaters, and even a city (Celebration, Florida), created in the Disney vision of small-town life.
