Introduction

The Starbucks Company was founded in 1971 by three people who met in the University of SanFrancisco as students. They included an English teacher jerry Baldwin, writer Gordon Bowker and history teacher Zev Siegel. They all shared a common passion for fine coffee and exotic tea. Their main inspiration came from an entrepreneur named Alfred Peet who owned Peets coffee and tea in California and imported tea and coffee. He also dark roasted the tea and coffee to bring out all their natural flavors. He taught customers how to grind the beans and make the coffee from the comfort of their homes. They borrowed $5000 from the bank and each invested $1350 to open pikes place store which was later called Starbucks. They did not brew the coffee yet but rather sold the beans directly to the customers and the only coffee there was the free samples. It has more than 18000 coffee shops in sixty countries, 9400 in ten countries which they own and 8650 licensed and franchised stores in other countries worldwide. It also owns the Seattleā€™s best coffee and Torrefazione Italia brands and its coffee is on the shelves of grocery stores and supermarkets.
