Informative Speech Outline 

Title: Growing Concern, Obesity 

Speaker:

Topic: Most Prevalent Causes of Obesity in the U.S. 

Purpose: To educate the audience on issues and concerns of increased obesity in the United States in adults and also children. 

Thesis Statement: There are large contributors to obesity amongst adults and a large sum of children, which consist of lack of choosing nutritious meals, portion distortion and a big factor, is Mass Media. 

INTRODUCTION 

When you see an overweight child what are your thoughts? Is the child to blame for improper consumption of food or lack of physical activity, or are the parents to blame for the child’s unhealthy lifestyle. Obesity is becoming more prevalent. It is easier to judge overweight people mainly for its socially unacceptable appearance in today’s society. But before we place the blame on the person, child or family, we need to see external factors that play a huge role in the now rising plague.

Thesis Statement: There are large contributors to obesity amongst adults and a large sum of children, which consist of lack of choosing nutritious meals, portion distortion and a big factor, is Mass Media.

Preview: Today I am going to talk about 4 main points that are essential in understanding why obesity is increasing in the U.S., particularly among our youth. First, we need to understand our environmental factors. Second, we need to have knowledge of our own lack of choosing nutritious meals. Third, we need to understand the “portion distortion” in the U.S. food industry, and lastly, we need to have knowledge of the role advertising media plays.
