Final Writing Project

Like the saying goes, we learn something new every day, for me, this statement was very true in every aspect of this course. Not only did I learn things that will help me in school and in my life, but also things I never noticed about myself. I learned about critical thinking, researching and personal learning styles, along with others, but there are 3 units that I know I won’t forget; those are Units 1 (Stress and Time Management), 7 (Goals and Planning) and 9 (Career Action Plan). The topics on goal setting and building an action plan have made me stronger to enter the business world because without some kind of plan or not setting goals for myself is like going through life with a blindfold on, with no sense of direction, and nothing to guide me. The other topic that was very helpful to me was on time management and stress because we are always so tied up in our daily routines that we never stop and think or notice that our days, months and even years fly away. We take for granted the concept of time with sayings like, “I’ll do it tomorrow” or “what’s the rush, I have all week.” Time can be very sneaky and creep up on us without warning and this is when the stress levels go up and when we will need those lessons on bringing that elevated stress level back down. Obtaining time management skills with ways to lower my stress, and making my goals realistic and achievable, in my opinion, is the best thing anyone could have taught me.

The way this course has affected me and my development was by giving me academic maturity. It has helped me reflect on what is important for me in my life. I am not afraid anymore to go out there and face my career-related fears. I know now that once I have a degree or degrees under my belt, I will be respected, seen and treated as a professional that is willing to advance in life and her career.
