Question # 1

Disney produces the “Disney Experience” in the United States by control. The “Disney Experience” shows everything good that America is known for, without any of the bad. This image has been infringed upon at its Disneyland location by development around the park. To limit this in Florida, Disney bought a large amount of land surrounding its park. In addition, Disney entered into contracts with the City of Orlando that allowed it to control everything on its land, without government intervention.

Finally, Disney had complete control of employees and their training in the United States. Employees had to go through extensive training on how to act in the park to deliver the perfect America image. In the United States, employees accepted these operating procedures without question.

Question # 2

Disneyland Tokyo was so successful because Japan was so willing to accept American culture. The Japanese were eager to experience a piece of Americana culture right in Japan. This led to great success because there really was not any difference between how Disney ran its amusement parks in the United States and Japan. Therefore, from Tokyo Disneyland, Disney learned it had a product that was marketable internationally and that I could expand outside of the United States.

Disney missed in Paris because it failed to recognize the importance of the French culture to France. France is very proud of its culture and saw Disneyland as infringing upon its own culture. The French were not very excited about this infringement and so protested Disney. To help limit the feelings of infringement, Disney has helped to institute pieces of French and European culture in the park. For instance, Disney started to serve wine in the park in response to French complaints.
