What is Euthanasia? Euthanasia is “the act or practice of killing or permitting the death of hopelessly sick or injured individuals (as persons or domestic animals) in a relatively painless way for reasons of mercy.” This term was created from the Greek word for “good death.” But is Euthanasia actually a “good death” or like any other killing? A lot of people consider it murder and not even a good death; what is even a good death? There is no such thing.

There are a many types of Euthanasia that are practiced around the world in some parts of countries. Voluntary Euthanasia is when a capable person makes a voluntary and durable request to be helped to die. Involuntary Euthanasia is when someone ends a person's life without his or her knowledge or permission. Active Euthanasia is to end a person's life by use of drugs, whether it’s by you or with the help of a doctor. Passive Euthanasia is to end a person’s life by not taking the needed actions to preserve life. This can be done by not giving water, food, and drugs, medical or surgical procedures. Physician-Assisted Suicide is suicide achieved with the aid of a medical doctor purposely providing a person with an overdose of prescription medication. Assisted Suicide is suicide achieved with the help of another person.

Physician-assisted suicide and euthanasia are legal and practiced almost everywhere in the Netherlands where about 9% of all deaths were, because of physician-assisted suicide or euthanasia in 1990s. Dutch doctors practice active euthanasia by lethal injections. Physician-assisted suicide is very scarce (no more than 3.4% of all cases in Holland of active annihilation of life in 1990). The Board of the Royal Dutch Medical Association permitted euthanasia on newborns and infants with extreme disabilities. So even babies had euthanasia practiced on them, just because they had a certain disability.
