To Give Up Or Not To Give Up!

About The Short Story, “Whose Face Do You See?”

A great realistic novel, with a moralistic theme, which challenges you. A rare book, which makes you think.

The story is a kind of a tricky in itself. A young girl has been in coma for some times and now, her family must decide whether to cut her support and let here die or not. A definite terrible situation for those involved.

Taking such a decision, where a life is at stake, is a tough and demanding task. A question nobody can claim of being 100% sure about its answer.

There are some points in life, one need to take a step forward to win. While, there are some other times when you gain the victory simply by giving up or just laying back. However, in this case, you have no clue about what comes next, and yet, you need to react. Should I or should I not? A familiar question we all face sooner or later in our life.

One of the best parts of the book happens when the mother has her last words with her daughter. A dramatic moment, enough emotional to make reader’s eyes wet. She tries to make a contact with her daughter and talks to her. The mother’s words and the way mother tries to save her daughter, despite all the odds against her, definitely serve their purpose.

Using two narrators to tell the story, helps the reader to look at the story from two very different perspectives. This raises even more questions, which is indeed the whole point.

The theme is probably love. With all its complications and paradoxes, love has been eventually the most powerful motivation for people through the whole history. A great motivation to live, to die and to fight for.

To make it short, “Whose face do you see?” is a great story about the love, hope and not giving up. A well-written novel that makes you rethink about the world and the people around you.
