Aphrodite (Venus)

What women desire, what they really spend hours thinking about, what they would go to the ultimate measures for, is that desire to be powerful and beautiful, as beautiful as a goddess. What goddess was known specfically for her beauty? None other than Aphrodite. According to society, physical beauty is of great importance, and women will do almost anything to feel like a goddess. They will acquire the latest make up product or even go to the extreme of altering their appearance through plastic surgery. One issue that really seems to be common for women is having to deal with the long, annoying process of repeatedly shaving their legs. The razor brand Gillette Venus tries to accomplish this goddess look when they advertise their razors, and we will continue to see the similarities between Gilette Venus and Venus the goddess. we will also notice how similar characteristics of Venus are still present in todays society.

Coincidentally, Venus is known as a goddess, specifically the goddess of fertility. The Romans equated her with Aphrodite, the goddess of beauty, love, power and marriage, but I will continue to refer to her as Venus. As we learned in Classical Mythology, beauty was an important factor to all women, as you can tell the times havent changed. Women still strive for this divine, sexy look, and by using a Venus razor they would achieve this. Gilette Venus will use phrases like "Reveal the Goddess In You", and "A Choice for Every Goddess". That is a direct and obvious statement relating to classical mythology. It is openly stating that every woman has an inner goddess to them, and by using their product they will feel and look more like a goddess. "Everyone knows that Aphrodite was the Greek goddess of feminine beauty, sex appeal, and love" (Marcovich, 1996). This goddess' characteristics were so overwhelming that they were well known amongst many people, this is what many women strive for today. They want to be desired by many, much...
