Technology–Trendy Communication

“Whether you are running a small start-up business or a worldwide enterprise, fostering effective communication is critical to success. No company can succeed long-term if its workers do not communicate with one another, and this lack of communication will quickly become evident in the form of missed appointments, disjointed meetings and wasted time. Fortunately, companies have a number of technological tools at their disposal to create an arena where open and honest communication is valued and respected.” (smallbusiness.chron)

Being in an industry that should use all technological forms of communication possible, it can sometimes be more of a hinder than a help. For example, working at a condo resort, where we manage 150 units, we have people who do not have the adequate equipment needed to communicate. Many of our housekeepers and maintenance men have cell phone that we can call them on, but some don’t. We communicate with some of our staff using e mail, and anyone who is out on the property we use an app called VOXER. Now if one of the employees does not have a cell phone, then we cannot get in touch with them while they are out on property and have to hope that they know what is going on for the day.

On the other hand, I worked in a hotel in Ohio where all forms of communication between staff members was through handheld walky talkies. This was such a hassle on some days because, even if we were all on the same frequency, people would still be able to tap into our frequencies and employees would not be able to hear us all the same.
