On to my next fantastic voyage through the human body! This time I found myself in my miniature sub, piloting my way through a 55-year-old man during the process of digestion. I will be swallowed as he consumes a hamburger, French fries, and a root beer. This voyage will start in the gastrointestinal tract and from there I will monitor the digestion of his meal along the way, describing all major structures I pass through. This is a very educational experience, being that I will be able to explain what the body goes through during the digestion process. Once I arrive at the distal ilium, I will travel through the mucosal membrane and then make my way through the Superior Mesenteric Vein, into the bloodstream. Once I have successfully guided my way into the bloodstream, I will continue on to the left kidney. Once I have arrived there I will trace my path from the superior mesenteric vein through the left renal artery, via the hepatic portal vein, heart and lungs, all while describing the major structures I pass by and through. Once I have made my way to the left kidney, I will cross the glomerular membrane into the Bowman’s capsule through the closest nephron. I will give a descriptive explanation of what I see once inside the kidney. From the kidney, I will then travel through the urinary tract until leaving the body via the urethra. As I continue my travels, I will narrate all structures I pass by and through.
