Volunteering and its Educational Impact on Today’s Youth

“There is a vast potential of volunteerism for advancing human development at local levels as well as within nations and across the world (Cronin 16).” Nevertheless, volunteerism is the aid that helps to formulate a productive person, which builds productive people, which builds a productive world. Instilling volunteering also created aide for those less fortunate, and it has designed long-term commitments with volunteers stating that they, “…want to keep doing it (Perry 11).” This is the sort of excitement community service builds by using the sentiment of instant gratification and feeling of accomplishment to lure in a potential volunteer. Students in high school are required to serve their community, but most have not yet learned the fulfillment one feels, so they begin resenting volunteering and claim it as ‘a waste of time’ before giving community service a chance. However, volunteering builds skills that these adolescents will need as they progress into their adult lives. Community service enhances work ethic; due to the amount of time that is put into the service being provided. This makes the individual, "commit to provide several hours a month volunteering at community based organizations (Lacey Boys and Girls Club Prepares Teens For A Solid Finacial Future)."Lastly, volunteerism builds active citizens because many volunteers feel pride for the work they have done and think of it as a perpetual service, “…something I could do here in my community (Perry 2).” With the aid of community service, students attain essential skills used after high school, students gain a strong sense of work ethic, and students achieve motivation to become an active citizen in their community, which in turn builds a better society.
