*Brief History

Backing up around 4000 years ago, the Ancient Babylonians had the great idea of inventing something very useful. That would help them to stay away from diseases and maybe some uncomfortable smell, the soup. Based on that amazing creation, today we have many types and brands of soap to keep us not only from the same issues, but improving our appearance, with anti-aging, cleansers for pimples, moisturizing and so on.

In the 1950s, the number one soap sold in the world was created. It was the Dove Body Soap. It’s interesting to know that it was made to help with the burns during the war. When the idea of moisturizing worked, Dove started the development of formulas for beauty care. In the 1990s the brand was on her way to the international world. Firstly in the UK, that is now the number one consumer. Unilever is the main brand who owns Dove. Today the soap is world known and is produced in many countries, like Netherlands, Indiana, USA, Germany and Brazil.

Year after year, Dove has created many different products, like hair care, deodorants, skin moisturizer and the soap. In many studies, the brand has proven to be one of the best on sensitive and dried skin. Therefore, it’s a very requested product nowadays, competing with other big brands like Johnson & Johnson's, Proactive, Nivea and Oley.

Dove created in 2004 the Campaign for Real Beauty. It has been a success based on the beauty that every single woman has. Its goal is to open people’s mind about the standards of beauty, trying to get rid of definitions. The other program is the Self Esteem Fund, which aims on educating little girls about self-confidence. Helping them to look at all definitions of beauty that the media imposes like a matter of marketing, not as an example of what they should be. The campaigns and the general idea of them are great. If it really works, it would change the way people look at the world.
