The King of Rock: Elvis

Elvis Presley was born on a cold winter night on January 8, 1935, in northern Mississippi. He was born the son of Gladys Love Presley and Vernon Presley. His twin brother Jesse Garon died at birth, however, Elvis did not find out that he had a twin brother until the age of 3.elviss parents were farmers. He came from a very poor home in which his parents were sharecroppers and so poor that they did not own the farm in which they worked. His mother had to quit her job when she found out she was pregnant with the twins and Vernon drifted from job to job. They lived in a two-bedroom cabin in which his father had to borrow the money for. In fifth grade he sang “Old Shep” for his teacher, the teacher was so impressed that she took him to the principal and made him sing it again. This led to him going to the Mississippi-Alabama Fair, he came in second place. No matter what he won, Elvis was still a normal ten-year-boy.

Elvis attended L.C. Humes high school which was a vocational and technical school. Seeing as how he was from a small town, he was overwhelmed at school having sixteen-hundred classmates. Elvis really enjoyed shop class and his favorite class was English. Some of his challenges included stage fright, along with being bullied, and not fitting in.

Elvis’ first job was at the Precision Tool Company where he made $1.65 an hour; in which he put together shell casings for the army. A few months later he quit and became a truck driver for the Crown Electric Company. His first big break was at Sun Records recording studio. This led to Elvis’ first hit to be “That’s All Right”. Later, he was known as the singer who liked to wiggle his legs. A huge inspiration to Elvis was his mother, who strived for him to go far in life. After his recording of his first hit, Elvis soon was able to quit his job at Crown Electric and travel full town, performing at the Opry, on television, and recording chart topping hits.
