Ethics

Ethics is involved in countless areas of study from business to science. Ethics is a philosophy and is the study of what is right and what is wrong. Ethics is divided into several groups and countless philosophers have studied this subject and have broken down the various areas of ethics. These philosophers as well as every day people have found a great interest in it. There are so many instances where humans are faced with ethical decisions and it becomes difficult to come up with a solution to every ethical decision. It’s a tough subject to grasp because when asked if something is moral or not there may not always be a clear cut right answer.

In the world of business people are faced with various ethical decisions every day. Many business owners/managers have one goal in mind and that is to make money. Sometimes these entrepreneurs, when faced with a moral decision, will simply decide to make more money even if that leads to hurting people in the long run. To me, a good rule of thumb when making a right ethical decision one has to choose whatever will benefit the majority. This can be a tough thing to do because there are so many different scenarios. In some of those scenarios one may be forced to choose what will hurt the majority which is why I think that trying to benefit the majority should be seen as a rule of thumb rather than something that is set in stone as always being to right choice to make.

In the case regarding Suzanna and her gauze supplier, deciding whether or not taking the meat was ethical or not is a tough choice. I personally think that in this particular case it is totally acceptable for Suzanna’s family to accept the meat. It was a simple kind gesture given to Suzanna as a thank-you for deciding to do business with them.
