1) The evolution of the institution of slavery from the Colonial Period to the 1860s. | 1600-1860 | The institution of slavery from the colonial period started by slaves that were taken from Africa and ended up in the United States. As slavery continued the slaves that were already there in the United States started to reproduce so there were more slaves were born and put to work when they were old enough to work. When the kids were born they become property of the owner of the slave’s owners. Sometimes the family were separated when slaves were sold or traded to another owner. The united states was growing fast that they needed the slaves to keep everything going. |

The abolitionist did not like slavery and wanted it to go away. The people of the United States did not want to think about slavery and how brutal it was to the African Americans. When they read the book they finally realized and started to fight to stop slavery. It also made people aware that it was not right to treat the slaves the way they were being treated.The Kansas-Nebraska Act was for the people of Kansas and Nebraska. It gave them the right to determine if they wanted to have slaves or not. The states that did not want slaves were called free states and the ones that wanted slavery were called slave states. The Kansas-Nebraska act caused fights between the two states that had violent outcomes. The Compromise of 1850 had a huge impact on the abolitionist movement that slavery ended in Washington D.C.
