Directions: Think of a misunderstanding you experienced when communicating with someone else at work, home, or school. Then fill in the blanks in the chart below.
Misunderstanding #1
Who was the sender? My manager
Who was the receiver? Myself
What was the message? My manager was trying to communicate driving directions to me of a house I was suppose to install new gutters on.
What channel was used to send the message? Face to face verbal
What was the misunderstanding that occurred? His directions weren’t really that clear and I ended up putting gutters on the wrong house.
How could the misunderstanding have been avoided? This could have been avoided if I would have asked for clarification in my feedback towards him.

What did you learn about the communication process from this activity? I learned that in order for the communication to be successful, both the sender and receiver need to work together in order for it to be successful.
What seemed to be the main causes of the misunderstandings? I believe that the main cause for this misunderstanding was that I did not ask for clarification of my manager’s directions. As the receiver, I should have conveyed better feedback.

What was the misunderstanding that occurred? Even though I received a confirmation email, they had no records that I made a payment
