Introduction

In the 21st century and in the advent of technology, learning institutions have encountered immense problems on how to design education programs that make-up the text for student courses. Students, teachers, parents and the general educational stakeholders are increasingly viewing technology as a critical tool of initiating students into the practices and texts the 21st century. This is because the digital texts differ according to the communication medium used despite the similarities and differences involved. Research on students reading technology acknowledges both the traditional and the modern practices through multimedia texts like wikis and a design curriculum that uses multimedia texts in same genres (Light, et, al 2009).

This study will investigate the use of wiki collaborative writing for higher institutions of learning. A selected group of students will be put through a learning program that will use a wiki program. The wiki program will take them through a number of classes through a period. Both qualitative and quantitative data will be analyzed from the activities recorded by the wiki system. This will include comments, posted edits, writing from students, student’s comments and teacher student interviews. The wiki page history will help reveal information about the revisions that need to be done while indicating the various types of revisions and feedbacks for a better students group writing. The findings from this study will shed light on how wikis can facilitate in students’ collaborative writing process by wikis and manner in which feedback from peers will influence this process (Langer, et, al 2011).
