Key concepts and terminology of organizational behavior, organizational culture, diversity, communication, business ethics, and change management will be defined and discussed through the readings of assigned articles and from personal experience. Examples of how these concepts relate to the workplace will also be provided.

Organizational Behavior

The study of organizational behavior consists of the skills, knowledge, commitment, and abilities of the employees. Organizations that treat people right will get high returns. This is what separates an organization from its competitors. Organizations that build positive work environments and make significant investments in their employees are best positioned to realize the benefits of their full talents and work potential (Hitt, Miller, & Colella, 2006, Basic Elements of Strategic Organization).

The organizational behavior of a school district demonstrates an administration that recognizes and optimizes the skills, knowledge, commitment and abilities of the employees. Improving student test scores represent the high returns from an organization that treats people right. Teachers are an important part of the organization and are positioned to realize the benefits of their full talents and work potential. Many teachers do well in an elementary school setting, while others specialize in the Math or Science and teach in a middle or high school. District administration and school administrators are also an important part of the organization and strive to build and reinforce positive work environments. District administrators provide opportunities for specialized training for all staff to help improve the employees’ skills and knowledge.
