Introduction

In this exercise, I was asked to create my own “Venturekipedia” by researching key words and phrases that interest and excite me in regards to a particular industry that I am interested in. For this exercise I elected to research community support initiatives particularly relating to military veterans and different methods of treatment for PTSD, Depression, and associated disabilities they experience post deployments. It would be an honor, in my opinion, to be granted the ability to assist in any way with therapy and/or healing for these veterans as a means of giving back and showing gratitude for the sacrifices they’ve made for all of us.

The Venturekipedia Exercise

Step 1: Keywords and Phrases

Upon researching the topic of Veterans and treatment, the first keyword I found was “Veteran.” Upon further reading within the “Veteran” article in Wikipedia, I came across several links for associated articles such as “Posttraumatic Stress Disorder,” “Veterans benefits for post-traumatic stress disorder within the United States,” “Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America,” then a “List of veterans’ organizations,” and lastly “Advocacy group.”

Steps 2 & 3: Deepening the search & Sharing information

I discovered that the recent incidences of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and depression with the recent wars weren’t a sudden occurrence as I had thought, but rather due to medical advances modern day warfare simply yields more survivors with severe injuries that soldiers in previous wars would have died from. Therefore, it is much more logical that we have so many more soldiers experiencing these psychological post-war handicaps than we ever have in the past. This information was incredibly educational. It taught me that PTSD is considered an anxiety disorder.
