The Phenomenon of Speaking in Tongues
A timeline through the 17th – 19th century
The phenomenon of speaking in tongues has confounded the logical, the average scientist, and the wise throughout all of history. The average analytical mind cannot comprehend it, cannot denote its origin, cannot understand why it still presently goes on, and they cannot understand how to make it stop. Throughout the centuries since the first century church, the Holy Ghost, being the evidence of speaking with other tongues, has been a subject of much thought that lost a main grip from the first century church but resurfaced as the new millennia approached. Recently speaking, starting from George Fox and the early Quakers up until the Norway revival that ended the 1800’s, the Holy Ghost, or tongues, has been a phenomenon that has passed down through various groups of people and continued to surface keeping itself in the foundation of the late apostles of the Bible right up until the massive rebirth that took place in modern Pentecostalism in Topeka, Kansas and what many know today as the Azusa Street Revival.
