Social networking sites such as Facebook have been growing in popularity and driving new forms of social interaction, and host dialogues that range from sharing interests, collaborating, planning events, propagating news, catching up with other people, searching for information and general chit chat, both for C2C interactions as well as B2C ones. Some say that social media is becoming the internet’s new search function, enticing people to action through word of mouth.
It has also altered the way with which we consider privacy and online behaviors, with people posting about the daily whereabouts and activities through their mobile phones, sharing their every thought, location or action with their hundreds of friends and followers. The hashtag # has become a regular thing that everyone uses to link their posts to even wider communities online. The lines between work and play are being blurred and people are spending time reading and posting well after the workday is over.
