Elusive Human Thinking

One obvious thing that can distinguish human beings and animals is that humans can think before acting. The actions humans take are much more difficult to guess because human`s way of thinking has changed over time. Different people make different decisions when facing the same issue. I got a name “think as you receive” for this situation. All the tangible and intangible materials, such as time, technology, education, economic, even human selves, make human beings think more complexly. Human brains development level now is much higher than in ancient periods. This is a natural occurring result of interaction between general environment and human beings. If mankind`s actions started from human selves without reflective thinking, then the mankind and the environment will not live in a harmonious way which could be a tragedy.

One specific example is the film Gattaca, Marie and Anton is a couple who conceived their first son Vincent without genetic modification and designed their second genetically modified son Antonio. In a society full of gene engineering, nature born babies are discriminated because of many avoidable sicknesses, so is myopia Vincent. He even was looked down on by his biological brother Antonio. Vincent`s endless enthusiasm towards outer space drove him to left home. But he could only be a cleaner in a space center, Gattaca, because of his inferior genes. Until Vincent met with an excellent man Jerome, he finally could get access to his pilot dream. (“Gattaca Plot Summary”) People may blame Vincent`s parents for their irresponsible action of natural childbirth. However, why are only men who are genetically engineered are admitted? Is this kind of highly developed society right? Clearly it is not. After watching Gattaca I realized that changing a world in a short time is almost impossible. Fortunately, we can start from changing ourselves.
