BACKGROUND

Baird was founded in 1919 and has grown into a company Barron’s called “one of the Top 40 Wealth Managers in the U.S.” (Baird) for 2013. Employees “bought back the company’s stock [from majority owner, Northwestern Mutual] in a series of purchases that culminated in 2004” (Hoovers). This move affords Baird an independence that is a noted part of its success (Baird). Worrying about outside shareholder interests is a non-factor (Baird). Making the best decisions for the client comes naturally for a company that is owned by its employees. Additionally, Baird has women’s events and programs, which show its awareness of the value of women. The company is global and extends its reach at every opportunity. Baird is also a firm which gives back through Baird Foundation, its philanthropic center.
