With the ever-changing market in retail shopping and the advancement in technology, it has become more important than ever for a company to put a defined focus on their management style to ensure their survival. Throughout the recession, some businesses had to close their door and others merged to maintain operations. One company in particular developed a structure of management that secured their survival as well as helped them maintain true to their mission statement of putting the customer first – Amazon.com. "Amazon.com Inc. is often cited as the prime example of E-commerce success, and the online retailer continues to lead the way when it comes to good site design," (Bacheldor, 2000, para. 1). They have done an outstanding job in maintaining a traditional mechanized structure with a departmentalized formality that allows them to stay successful and abreast with the ever-changing technology. By taking a closer look at Amazon organizational chart, we will be able to articulate how Amazon’s management style has continued to platform the company for success and allow them to stay abreast with technology.

Part of their success has to do with the organizational structure in the company. Making sure each department is meeting the needs and the demands of their customers is directly tied into the type of management structure used. Amazon uses the mechanistic structure, which allows the company to have a clear chain of command and a departmentalized structure allowing each department to make clear and concise business decisions. Because of the size of the organization, it is important they do not change the structure to resemble an organic type of module.
