Problems of big cities

Nowadays, many people tend to prefer a life in the urban city. The trend causes a whole number of problems. The major one among them is of course the overpopulation.

The flood of urbanities engulfs not the richest counties, but the poorest. In places where rates of natural population increase exceed three per cent annualy – that alone is enough to double a city’s population within 20 years. The streams of hopeful immigrants from the neglected countryside is also very powerful. More often than not, even the most appaling urban living conditions are an improvement on whatever these people have left behind.

The problem of overpopulation gives rise to the housing problem.

To house all the people, coming to the big cities the Authorities have to build new high-rise houses, which are neither ecological nor convenient for living. Besides, the habitation is really expensive nowadays, so only well-to-do people can afford themselves to buy a flat.

The third problem that the society in the urban city has to face is unemployment. The supply of employment is surplus while the demand for employment cannot meet its supply. Modern industries put a premium on technology rather than manpower, so some people become jobless and can’t afford their own living. As the result, the standard of living decreases dramatically.

One more important problem in the big cities is the pollution, such as air pollution, water pollution and so on. Enterprises and traffic release fume into the air and water. The pollution affects a lot not only the environment, but also the health of people, it can even create some disease for people.

One more problem of the big cities is of course the traffic problem. Congested roads, hours-long traffic jams complicate the city life.

How to ease the life in the big cities? Are there any ways of solutions of these problems?
