Responsibility of a NCO

The Noncommissioned Officer's duties are numerous and therefore must be taken very seriously. The primary duty of an NCO is to accomplish the mission and take care of their Soldiers, which is our number one priority. An NCOs does this by developing a genuine concern for their Soldiers' well-being. NCOs must know and understand their Soldiers well enough to effectively train them as individuals and as part of a team. By doing this, leaders will give their Soldiers confidence in their ability to perform well under the sometimes difficult and demanding conditions of the Army way of life.

NCOs has the responsibility to enforce the standards of military appearance and discipline. We as NCOs must lead by example and live the Army Values in order for Soldiers to do the same. NCOs should never ask a Soldier to do anything illegal, immoral or anything they are not willing to do themselves. Making the right choice and acting on it when faced with an ethical dilemma can be difficult. Responsibility is being accountable for what you do or fail to do. NCOs are responsible to fulfill not only their individual duties, but also to ensure their Soldiers are fulfilling their duties. When NCOs fail to do their job and allow Soldiers to fail to do their job the mission, the unit and ultimately the Army suffers.

NCOs must provide the guidance, resources, assistance and supervision necessary for Soldiers to perform their duties. Mission accomplishment demands that Officers and NCOs work together to advice, assist and learn from each other. Responsibilities fall into two categories: command and individual. It is Every NCO to understand the different between command and individual responsibilities.

NCOs are responsible for correcting Soldiers who wear the uniform improperly and for teaching them the correct standards of appearance. NCOs should point their Soldiers in the right directions show them in writing where they are wrong...
