Conflict Resolution: Effective Communication Skills

Introduction

The principles of conflict and the approaches used to handle it can be either constructive or destructive. The approach used to handle conflict begins with the family unit and are carried forth into our various relationship venues. These relationships can occur in a romantic, social, or workplace setting. Sharing a close emotional or physical proximity to others observing differing values, ideas or interests causes conflict.

Although conflict is an inevitable part of life, it can be effectively managed. Individuals can receive the necessary training to successfully guide conflict participants through the conflict process to resolution. The training is beneficial to each layer of strata within the business or company. Employees, managers, supervisor, and leaders can use the training to assist themselves or others navigate the waters of conflict. In order to be successful, individuals must become skilled, effective communicators.

Effective communication skills are of great benefit to any organization. Individuals who have the ability to have their messages accurately conveyed and understood by others are a valued asset. This ability is necessary in establishing greater workplace diversity; developing employee morale; global expansion; and team building. This review will utilize the referenced literature to provide a synthesized assessment of the role effective communication skills play in the conflict resolution process.

Problem Statement

Conflict is a natural part of the human experience and occurs in all relationships; whether romantic, professional, or familial.
