Unfortunately, Just My Luck seems to have misplaced its four leaf clover and found itself all out of luck.

Few laughs, fewer surprises.

This quirky romantic-comedy see’s Ashley Albright (Lindsay Lohan), a prosperous Manhattanite, swap her fortune with Jake Hardin (Chris Pine), a clumsy, down-and-out young man she meets by chance. The lucky switch happens at a glamorous party (of course!) where the two are lip-locked, swapping saliva and apparently, a lot more. The film flaunts a good cast, showcasing Lohan in her first out-of-adolescent film; however it fails to take full advantage of her significant charm. It is plain to see that the actors are trying their best, but sometimes the best isn’t quite enough to stop the salt from spilling. Lohan and Pine show good chemistry (when allowed to show it), regrettably their love life is reduced to a level of affection so low, even pre-teen girls are feeling ripped off. Not only is the romantic relationship purely kiss-based, so is the plot, making it hard to get into the fantastical world the movie creates itself into.

Donald Petrie (Miss Congeniality, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days), has lowered his standards with this one; it’s a well-produced film, however he has neglected to realise the foolishness of the so called ‘humour’. The tacky script and cringe-worthy dialogue is not helped by the blow-after-blow scenarios, seeing the characters undergo one senseless physical gag after the other. The film can barely breathe beneath the predictable, non-stop attempts to make this movie a comedy; however the ‘luck’ they keep referring to seems to be mistaken for stupidity.

Although the humour is the only thing keeping this movie going, it’s not quite enough to create the story into anything that anyone over 18 could embrace as slightly amusing. This movie is definitely a pre-teen...
