Abstract

Education is one of the most important spheres in society. It transforms us in to the individuals we are today. The decisions we make in life is a reflection of our educational background. The history of Apartheid has left a legacy of unequal standards in the country’s education system which the government tried to solve through OBE that has failed. In South Africa our education system does not reflect one of high standards. The constant curriculum changes and the poor matriculation pass rate, paint a portrayed that one cannot be proud of. Therefore it is extremely important that society determines the problem which this study hopes to uncover in the foundation phase. Our research question was aimed at determining what factors in the foundation phase influence a learners schooling career. This research had been carried out by visiting two schools in different locations and interviewing 11 individuals, who were either educators or in the education department.
