Skin Product Analysis

The skin care product being analyzed is the Clinique clarifying lotion 1, and is the first step to the four step kit that claims to give clear skin. The product claims it is able to keep skin consistently clear by removing excess oil and dead skin. On the website it is described as an exfoliator, and based on the customer reviews it is said to work. There is no scientific information to back up the claims on the website except that it is dermatologist recommended, but instead more claims are made. The product is said to clear out pollution from the face and make skin glow as well as make pores smaller, help better retain moisture, and help skin grow more resistant to impurities.

The product does seem likely to work in certain areas for it is an exfoliator and exfoliating is important. We shed dead skin cells everyday on all parts of our body, so this product would decently be able to remove the skin that was shed on the face so it does not later clog the pores and cause things like acne breakouts. This product would also seem able to make pores smaller and clear out impurities. Since it is an exfoliator it would get deep into the pores and unclog them by removing the impurities and excess oil buildups, and since pores size increase as they become clogged, unclogging them with this product would most certainly reduce their size. The claim made by the product to make skin glow seems inaccurate, for everyone’s skin is different and not every skin type will therefore “glow” after its use. Precisely because there are different skin types not all of them would grow more resistant to impurities like the product claims. Some skin types secrete an excess amount of oil that can attract more impurities than those who don’t produce as much oil, and exfoliating will only remove the excess oil that is currently present on the skin’s surface, not necessarily reduce the amount of oil that is produced on your face.
