Chapter 8 Case 1&2

Case 1

1. Why did Freeport-McMoRan need a performance management system? How will it help the company if it has to adjust its strategy in the future?Case1- Freeport-McMoRan needed a performance management system because the price of mining cooper rose from 75 cents per pound to $4.50 a pound. With the value price that high, they needed to increase production and invest in new companies and equipment. Performance management system will help Freeport-McMoRan if they have to adjust their strategy in the future by allowing the company to rapidly carry out and monitor the changes needed, while giving it the swiftness to change policies again if or when the price of copper dropped.

Employees do not always fill out those forms accurately because their mind is somewhere else and to get it over with they just put neutral answers or answers that they think the conductors want to see. Employees have the chance to do it at home on their own time where they are relaxed and more likely to think with a clear mind to actually give an honest feedback.
