Hello my name is SPC Howard, Derrick. I have been given the task of writing this essay on The Importance of Being at Your Appointed Place of Duty while in the United States Army. In this essay I will be using definitions from Webster’s dictionary and some of the Army Values in order to give an understanding on how being and not being at the appointed place of duty can effect yourself, battle buddies, leadership, chain of command, the mission and tasks at hand. Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Integrity and. This should give you more of a comprehension of why it is important to be at your appointed places of duties while in the United States Army.

Duty is defined in Webster’s dictionary as, “obligatory tasks, conduct, service or functions that arise from ones position”. It is one of the primary values in the Army today. Duty is the reason why we get up every day and prepare to defend the United States of America with our lives. This is why it is very important to be at your appointed place of duty when you are obligated to, or even just strengthen and support the team, platoon, company and the entire organization. Duty is one of the values outlined the Army values. In my opinion it is one of the most important of all of them. It is very important but without the other values, Duty by itself cannot assist in accomplishing the mission. We still have the other values like, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage. These all set up the framework for us to be able to accomplish or duty as soldiers. All of them work hand in hand with each other. Fulfill your obligations. Doing your duty means more than carrying out your assigned tasks. Duty means being able to accomplish tasks as part of a team.
