Should College Athletes Truly Be Paid?

The topic of discussion is Should College Athletes Be Paid for the what they contribute to the colleges they attend, even though in most aspects they receive a free ride while they attend their school of choice. It is a topic that touches many people all over the nation because there are many including former students athletes themselves they would prefer that they did received some type of stipend while they were attending the school for the sports program. Let’s not forget that the main purpose of them attending the school is to receive a degree so incase the sports part doesn’t work out for them they have something to fall back on in their immediate future. Here is why I bring this up, most colleges give them a free ride to complete four full years in order to receive their degree, which covers where they live, books and any other SCHOOL expenses. But aren’t they allowed to live a life out of school as well to kind of give them a break from the pressures of school and sports, well that is something we are going to continue to discuss as you read further along.

Now the first thing most people bring up when they are against student athletes receiving some type of compensation for the athletics performances is: they already received a full ride to the school of their choice, and let’s face most people on an academic level don’t always have those options. Also they should already be compensated for the amount of publicity they get while being on television and having their name broadcasted on ESPN really depending on how good they really are on the team. So let’s take football for instance there are 85 players on a normal college football roster, with a total of 22 guys to start on offense and defense respectively.
