Ramses II (Ramses the Great)
* Lived from 1303 BC - 1213 BC.
* He was the third ruler of the Nineteenth dynasty of Egypt.
* Reigned Egypt from 1279 BC – 1213 BC.
* Was the second longest ruler in Egyptian history.
* Became a military captain at age 10.
* Ramses led Egypt’s military into battle with the Hittites and signed a peace treaty.
* He also led the army into battle with the Tehenu, which he defeated with a series of forts covering the western frontier.
Queen Hatshepsut
* Lived from 1508 BC – 1458 BC
* She was the fifth pharaoh of the Eighteenth dynasty of Egypt.
* Reigned Egypt from 1479 BC – 1458 BC.
* Ruled longer than any other female pharaoh in Egyptian history.
* Came into power because after her husband (Thutmose II) died the throne was left to Thutmose III but he was too young so she acted as his regent.
* Is remembered because while she was pharaoh she wore the traditional clothing of the male pharaoh.
* Her reign is thought to be one of the most successful.
Piankhi (Piye)
* Lived from 751 BC – 716 BC.
* Is believed to have reigned from 747 BC – 719 BC.
* Led the armies of Kush against Egypt until Egypt fell.
* Was originally a Kushite king but he wanted to rule Egypt.
* Wanted to be king of Egypt because he believed that the gods wanted him to rule Egypt.
* Was a very good military leader.
Egyptian Achievements
* Egyptians had many great achievements such as,
* Hieroglyphics is an Egyptian writing that was used for tombs, and other important places.
* Hieratic was an Egyptian writing that was used every day for no special reason.
* Papyrus was used for scrolls, boats and food.
* Sphinxes are imaginary creatures with the head of an animal or human and a body of a lion.
* Obelisks are tall, four sided pillars that have pointed tops, and these were normally placed in front of temples.
