Abstract

This research aims to find how NGOS in Egypt work, how they participate in developing Egyptian community and how the Egyptian media promote these NGOS. The research defines civil society, mapping them and showing how they interact with the Egyptian society. The research defines the obstacles that face NGOS in Egypt. The research will map the civil society organizations in Egypt, where they could be found and how they operate. The research will contain background information about the establishment of NGOS in Egypt and where they originated. The research will show how civil society interacts with the media and how media promote their work.

Introduction

Nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) are legal organization created by a group of people in order to provide benefit to the society without seeking any profit. The NGOs activities are totally separate from government interfere and all of the membership of the organization must not be from the government. It is hard to classify the NGOs but we can try to classify it by each organization level of orientation which are the following:-

1. Service orientation

2. Charity orientation

3. Empowering orientation

4. Participatory orientation

And also NGOs can be classified by the level of operation:-

1. Community organizations

2. National organizations

3. International organization

Literature review

According to professor James Hazard ”A well known definition of civil society is the occupation of social space between the country and the market” (2009). A huge variety of organizations regardless their difference occupies this space sharing features that made them the social division of the private organizations providing public services.

Features and regulations social society organizations share:-

1. They are voluntary organizations

3. They are non-profit organization
