Recent decades have brought extraordinary transformations in science and technology, the collective impact of which has been felt worldwide. However, these transformations explored the challenges posed to the governments, societies and scientists. In this assignment, I have highlighted a few challenges faced by the contemporary Muslim scientists.

First, there is no cooperation between the Muslim scientists and the westerners’ scientists in order to contribute to international peace and security. This is because in today’s world, technological pursuit is centered nationally. It is different during the Muslim golden age, where the major scientific contribution took advantage of that civilization’s permeability and lack of national boundaries. Today, Muslim scientists might fare best by creating regional networks. For an instance, it could mitigate the danger of nuclear energy. Besides that, it may improve the global capacity for prevention and preparedness to biological threats through enhanced disease surveillance, early detection and response. This regional organizations will be able to monitor and response to infectious disease such as the severe acute respiratory systems (SARS) and Asian bird flu epidemics (H1N1).

Second, the application of sciences must be in conformed to the Shari’ah of Islam. As science and technology has become the principal driving force behind the economies, potential abuses of its products also increases. Technology is inherently neither good nor bad: what matters is the use to which it is put. Pressing ethical questions regarding the application of technology have been posed across different cultures, politics and religions, with the debate constantly shifting along with scientific innovation.
