Potential Business Expansion (Dubai)

As you requested, I’ve researched some of the culture consideration of doing business in the country of Dubai. The information I have provided information that focuses on the cultural considerations to beware of when considering expanding our company to Dubai. There are three critical parts to having a successful business in Dubai, Oral communication, Non-Verbal, and written communication. This information should help gain more knowledge about Dubai.

Oral Communication

Communication is key, especially when dealing with another country. We as a professional company must know how to communicate with all of our business partners, especially those located in other countries. It is critical to be polite and respectable to every national that you may come across in Dubai. Be sure to get the English name(s) of those that you will meet prior to meeting; you also need to know how to address them. Be sure to know how to greet by shaking hands and saying kaif halak (How are you doing?) There are several styles of greetings in use, it is best to wait for your counterpart to initiate the greeting. Men shake hands with other men. Some men will shake hands women; however it is advisable for a businesswoman to wait for a man to offer his hand. A more traditional greeting between men involves grasping each other’s right hand, placing the left hand on the other’s right shoulder and exchanging kisses on each cheek. The use of the left hand is frowned upon, because it is considered unclean and reserved for hygiene. Eat and gesture with the right hand. And NEVER point at another person. This is considered very disrespectful.
