Part I

Write a summary of 350-700 words identifying the contributions of Freud, Jung, and Rogers.

Sigmund Freud is one of the most known and influential psychologist and theorist. Although Freud focused much of his attention on consciousness, he stressed unconsciousness as well when it comes to thoughts, feelings, and ides that we are not aware of. Freud believed that three different things-the id, the ego, and the superego, structure a person personality. Freud believed that the id operated on the pleasure that allows a person to gain pleasure before pain can arise. Freud believed that the ego allows a person to make a conscious decision regarding desires in a safe manner. The last part of Freud’s theory of personality is the superego. The superego is the part of an individual’s personality that gives a person morality. Without the superego, a person would be selfish and unsociable. Frauds theories were mostly based on a person’s sexuality.

Carl Jung believed in analytic psychology that many people who were interested in the views of Freud were also interested in the views of Carl Jung. Unlike Freud, Carl Jung believed that a person’s behavior patterns are inherited. These thought patterns are called archetypes. Jung also presented persona, anima, and animus as being factors of male and female personality. Persona is the portion of a person’s personality that individuals allow others to see. Anima is the female archetype that is the feminine qualities in a man. Animus is the male archetype that is the masculine qualities of being a loner with low self-confidence. An extrovert on the other hand is the opposite. An extrovert is one that is highly active with the world and the people around them. Carl Jung’s were mostly based on a persona’s spiritual and rational qualities.
