erontologists and researchers have been studying brain functions for decades in order to uncover the mysteries behind why people lose brain function and memory capacity as they age. Their research has revealed a variety of information about the causes of brain deterioration and the possibility of reversing diminished brain function. While some people lose function out of purely biological causes, such as a stroke or disease, scientists agree that one of the most devastating causes of brain deterioration and memory loss is entirely within human control. The brain stops functioning efficiently when it is not used.

Just like any other muscle in the body, the brain is composed of cells that emit electric impulses as they communicate with one another. When a person is engaged in active thinking, the brain sends signals from one part of the brain to another through a system of synapses. These signals are electric and as they travel, they stimulate different parts of the brain to use their brain cells that are associated with a specific function, such as thinking. Brain cells multiply when they are stimulated. Just like with any other muscle in the body, when the muscles cells are stimulated and multiplied, they become stronger and lead to a longer-lasting muscle.

Many people are aware that the brain is a muscle and that they should "use it or lose it," as the adage goes. But what many people may not know is that, just like any other muscle, the brain develops patterns and habits through repeated use. For example, a baseball pitcher practices pitching so that he can train the muscles in his body to pitch a perfect ball during a game. As he trains his muscles, they not only grow, but they develop in a way that makes his movements expected and somewhat routine so that during a game, he doesn't have to stop to think about how to pitch the ball.

Like the baseball pitcher trains muscles to respond in a certain way, brain teasers train the brain to respond in a certain...
