Communication is a very important part of human relations and forms one of the foundational pillars of how information is transmitted amongst people. The benefits of communication are seen all around us and they effectively improve and enhance personal and professional lives (Maritime Faculty 2002). Communication, when not undertaken effectively can become a source of stress, misunderstanding and embarrassment in our lives and can in some instances lead to dire consequences (Maritime Faculty 2002).

Communication is a process that takes place at several levels. The levels can be intrapersonal where an individual communicates with oneself, interpersonal, where individuals communicate s amongst themselves and group communication which is communication between a single individual and a large audience. “Mass communication is a communication process that covers an entire society, in which an individual or institution uses technology to send messages to a large, mixed audience, most of whose members are not known to the sender” (Hanson 2013, Chapter 1). It involves the process of transmission, assimilation interpretation and creation of meaning and actions from that message.

The consumption of that message is dependent on how much the message can draw the attention of individuals, groups, and sometimes the entire populations (Hanson 2013, Chapter 1). Communication can be wielded as a very powerful tool for doing good and for doing evil. The complexities that arise as a result moral dilemmas that arise due to the manner, in which communications on these various medium forms is undertaken, make it very important to understand the right and the wrong way to communicate information. Some moral dilemmas that arise in media communication include issues such as: it may be right to publish something but it may not be legal to do it; or vice versa it may be legal but it is not right for example the beauty adverts that advocate that you will receive a youthful younger looking...
