Paper # 3: America’s War On Sex

After reading, “America’s War on Sex” I was a little stunned by what was mentioned in how government has played a huge role in exercising their power with people and sex. Dr. Marty Klein describes in his book in depth about how the Government has tried to and succeeded for that matter, in many cases with dictating with people’s sexuality such as the sexual education in schools and reproductive rights with men and especially woman. I have always considered myself to somewhat of a conservative and a republican. I know how some older generations feel conventional on the topic of sex but I still do not feel like everyone’s sexuality should be politicized. It was not until I read this book that I started to reconsider what a” conservative republican” really is. I could not believe that one of our republican President’s was trying to eliminate our right when it came to sexual activities. I found that to be completely irrational, they should be protecting our country and people, not forbidding.

Dr. Marty Klein mentioned how one of the “battlefields” was sex education. In school systems the government enforced a sex education that are taught by using abstinence-only programs. If I ever learned anything from my childhood, is that when I was told not to do something I had the more interest to try it. Forcing children and young adults into an abstinence program is going to lead to more temptation than before. It has even been proven in some data analysts that the sexual activity doubled with the participants in an abstinence only program. I remember from my experience in elementary school up into high school, that the school system was very bias and conservative. The setting in the classroom was extremely one sided and uncomfortable. I never asked too many questions on a topic and neither did the majority of the other students.
