Destiny Defining Reality

The Art of Racing in the Rain isn’t just about the tragedies that take place throughout the entire book or the suspense and devastation you face while reading each chapter. It’s about how you use the advice you’ve received and cope with the situations in your own way. The Art of Racing in the Rain is taking life as it’s thrown at you and balancing it out.

It’s clear that Enzo is the main character having to realize what life is all about, and that taking what he knows about racing and figuring it into his own life. This makes a realization of the simple fact that you bring your own destiny upon yourself whether that was with racing or relationships. Enzo needed to put forward effort, in order to get effort in return, and fulfill the destiny that he potentially wanted, because like Denny said, you are a huge part of your own destiny. “About believing that the track is an extension of the car, and the rain is extension of the track, and the sky is an extension of the rain.” (Page 314). This quote really signifies the advice that Enzo has been giving himself, and it really makes a huge difference in whatever situations seem to come his way. If you were to expand this quote in a way that makes sense to what Enzo is endeavoring, it would be that the track is his life, the rain is the situations he is dealing with, and the sky being his future.

There are two particular situations that Enzo had to go through that signified the real meanings of every piece of advice that crossed his mind. Both of the situations Eve was a part of were significant and had a huge effect on Enzo because of their relationship. The first interaction was the initial move that Enzo took towards making a relationship with Eve after she had walked into Denny’s life and let her seek more of Denny’s attention.
