Research Process and Terminology

This paper will provide a discussion of the research process and some of the new terminologies learned in the first week reading assignments. Also, an explanation will be given on how new terminologies and information can be applied to a career in the criminal justice field. The terminology use in the criminal justice field can negatively or positively influence the decision when conducting criminal justice research. It is crucial to understand and use the correct terminology when examining, and analyzing research studies or data before, during, and after the research process. Furthermore, success in any field of work is dependent upon the right terminology (Bennett, Briggs & Triola, 2009). An important part of any job is to be familiar with the proper terminology, as well as to attain the knowledge to use terms correctly.

While the majority of people can conduct research, many have not learned how to do so properly. To conduct research correctly, the researcher should know the language and the right terminology use in the research process. As the reading is done to discover something new, research is conducted to find new information about a particular subject or problem. To conduct quality research, many reliable resources need to be referenced (Hagan, 2010). When using articles from magazines, books and internet careful research is required. The credibility of all authors should be verified.

Research is started by means of assumptions, before presenting the facts for reasoning. During the process a theoretical precedes where there is an effort to collect details about the topic as well as collecting information on the after the fact reasoning (Hagan, 2010).
