Thinking about the future, Planning for the future, Working for the future, are generally things people try to think about, and consider, but how often do our plans work, the way we want them to? The story of little Robbie being left the way he was happens far too often in our society due to the lack of thinking and planning on the parents part. Sadly, the role of poverty, drug abuse, and prostitution leads to many children ending up in a situation like Robbie was in.

Teen pregnancy may have been normal hundreds of years ago, but is not normal or healthy anymore. Teenagers that end up getting pregnant now have many options attempting to continue their education while trying to raise their children with or without the other parent help from other people such as parents, dropping out of school, getting a job to help support the baby, or abandoning the child. Not one of these options sounds like a good and easy option, and sadly many choose to abandon the child. Considering the area they were in, Robbie’s mother could have been a lady of the night, a prostitute, who did not have the means to support the child. There are many, many possibilities of whom Robbie’s parents could be. There are many organizations that you can give your baby to that will try to find a foster home for the child, but the issue is many people do not want to have to face these people, so they would rather leave the child near a hospital, church, or an orphanage.

Teenagers having sex is almost always going to happen, because of hormones pumping through their bodies. Advocating safe sex and birth control is a double edged sword that will cut four ways from Sunday. Certain high schools hand out condoms openly to students to try and decrease teen pregnancy, but many people argue that this is only contributing to the problem by handing out condoms they are giving teenagers permission to have sex.
