Annotated Bibliography

"Nella Larsen." Black History Now. Black Heritage Commemorative Society, n.d. Web. 14 Apr. 2014. <blackhistorynow.com>. Black History Now is an informational website that is dedicated to providing people with a collection of comprehensive biographies of influential African-Americans. This text discusses her early life and her accomplishments such as her very famous novel Quicksand. From this novel she was awarded the Foundation Bronze Metal for literature and led on to become one of the most influential figures in the Harlem Renaissance. The text also discusses her downfall after accusations of plagiarism with her work Sanctuary. This relates to my topic because it gives detail on her rise to success and how she fell from it as well. My only critique is that the details of the plagiarism scandal could have been more thorough in my opinion and give more insight on what she was feeling during this time.

Vechten, Carl Van. "Nella Larsen." Extravagant Crowd. Web. 12 Apr. 2014. <http://brbl-archive.library.yale.edu>. Vechten is a photographer that is associated with this website to honor all the most Influential women in history that he took portraits of. Carl was an early supporter of Larsen's work and he was one of the first people to introduce her to big names in history that later helped her with her writing career. Her second novel Passing is discussed and describes how it was a novel about a mixed race women who passes for white and married a white man. This peace of text held important information for my topic because it talks about another artist that Larsen worked with and how they worked together and in the end it made her more successful. My only critique is that

they explain more how it was the Larsen met Vechten.
