Strengths:
• 60% of the Turkish market.
Turkcell has a large market portion already which allows them to bring their new products directly to the majority of users.
• Different to competitors.
Turkcell is far from the same as their competitors. They have taken a lot of effort and time to differentiate themselves from the others so they can stand out. They stand out in a positive manner that is for sure.
• Healthy cash flow.
By the end of 2002, Turkcell had assets of $3.2bn and revenue of $1.97bn. The net income was $101m (pretty impressive for a company as new as they were).
• Listed on the NYSE
Turkcell is the only Turkish company listed in the US and this helps lends some credibility to their product and name. They have utilized this and really work this into their marketing campaigns.
• Constant innovation
In their highly competitive industry, Turkcell knows they have to be at the forefront of all new innovation or risk losing valuable market share to someone else.
• Extensive employee training
Many economics will tell you the road to a successful company lies with their employees and Turkcell has invested heavily into their staff. They pay slightly above market value to ensure they attract quality and also are constantly training their staff with new resources.
• Good customer relations & social responsibility
Turkcell works hard to ensure they have a positive image in the minds of their customers and strives to try and help where they can. Through a positive image their brand sticks out in the people’s minds and often is the name they remember when they need a new phone etc.
Threats:
• Nationalization
