The topic I chose to write about is coronary heart disease. I selected this particular topic because it is the leading cause of death in the United States for both men and women, and I do not have a good grasp of knowledge on this disease. My grandfather passed away from a heart attack when I was very young and I at the time did not understand what was going on with his condition. I hope that after doing research on this very common disease, I’ll be knowledgeable about what caused my grandfather to pass away and hopefully know what would happen if one of my family members is diagnosed with this disease. Also, I want to know how to prevent such a disease from happening to me so I would prolong my life.

The symptoms of a coronary heart disease are very noticeable. However, it’s possible to have the disease and not show any symptoms, as this is common during the early stages of heart disease. Angina, chest pain or pressure, is the most common symptom, and you can feel this pain when the heart is not receiving enough blood or oxygen. Another way to say chest pain is a strange feeling in your chest. Medical News Today says when it comes to the symptoms of the disease: “A squeezing, pressure, heaviness, tightening, burning or aching across the chest, usually starting behind the breastbone. This pain often spreads to the neck, jaw, arms, shoulders, throat, back, or even the teeth. Patients may also complain of symptoms that include indigestion, heartburn, weakness, sweating, nausea, cramping, and shortness of breath.” Other symptoms that are listed on Medical News Today are: Heart attack, coughing, dizziness, face seems gray, a feeling of terror that your life is coming to its end, feeling really awful, nausea, restlessness, clammy and sweaty, and vomiting.
