Different types of researcher Some people may define the term “Research” in different ways. It may depends on their knowledge and experience. All of those definitions may not be wrong, because the main idea they all express would be the same. “The systematic rigorous investigation of a situation or problem in order to generate new knowledge or validate existing knowledge”. (Krishnakumar, 2011) Researchers are separated into different profiles. Those profiles is discussed in the following. Researcher as insider is one of the profiles of a researcher. The term insider researcher is described a situation where the researcher is the part of the topic being investigated. Which means the researcher is currently being involved in the population of the research topic. Other words, researching into own organization in order to gather more knowledge on a particular topic or a situation. For an example, analyzing the condition of working environment of human resource department. In this case, the researcher must be a staff of human resource department. And the population of the research would be all the staff of human resource department. Researcher as outsider is described a situation where the researcher is conducting a research in own organization but, different part of organization where the researcher has little or no personal connection. We can use the same example above but, research will be conducted in a different department like finance department of same organization. A researcher and a detective has some differences themselves. A researcher deals more with social science in the field of sociology, psychology and social works. A researcher usually identifies a hypothesis and gathers data and statistics to prove or disprove the theory.
