2. They have differences as well as a commonality. What accounting researches and critical theorists have in common is that they seek to highlight, oppose and change the perceived role of accounting in supporting the privileged position of some people in society. Despite this there are many differences including other theoretical perspectives tend to rely on one-way relationships whereby either theory determines practice or practice determines theory. In addition other accounting researchers tend to focus on developing specific accounting practices compared to encompassing the broader level of society.

5. To an extent they would argue that accounting methods would help, but it could also compound existing problems. Critical accounting theory goes beyond questioning whether particular methods of accounting should be employed, rather, from a critical perspective the role of accounting is to sustain a privileged position of those in control of a particular resource, while undermining the voice of those without capital. To an extent, it’s difficult on an international scale to agree on new accounting methods, moreover it’s difficult to suit the needs of every member of society.

8. (a) Critical theorists sustain a privileged position of those in control of a particular resource while undermining the voice of those who are underprivileged. They would view this fact as irregular and harmful to society, thus measures need to be implementing to correct those underprivileged.

(b) To an extent, but since owners have more power and hence more resources, from a critical perspective, one would highlight that within society, this is right. As a critical theorists you incorporate everyone in society and that includes both workers and owners of the organisation.
