The current situation of the Crimean peninsula is not just a result of a conflict within few years. Rather, it is a conclusion of a long complex history, which can be dated back to more than thousands of years.

To begin, their divided history started even before the epoch. For about 1000 BC to 500 Ad, many ethnic groups such as Scythian, Hun and the Goths lived in the region of the modern Ukraine except for Crimean peninsula. In the same period, Greek, Roman and the Slovak dwelled on the peninsula. Throughout the period, each area- the inland Ukraine and the Crimean peninsula- developed their own different and distinctive culture.

At around 882 AD, Slavs spread around the east Europe and build a country named ‘Kyivan Rus’. Ranging from Volga River to Tisa River in East and West and from Black Sea to Baltic Sea in the North and south, this country extended its territory including most of modern Europe countries. After Kyivan Rus’s collapse, each region split up based on their nationality. So from this period Ukraine people began building the ‘Ukraine’ culture. However, they did not have a sufficient power to build and sustain their own country. As a result, for about 1000 years, the Ukraine people suffered division and rule of many countries such as the Russia. Austria, Poland kingdom or even Mongolia. Meanwhile, the Crimean monarch separated themselves from the Kipchak Khanate and built their own nation in the Crimean peninsula. Yet after few years, the Crimean kingdom also ends up suffering domination by countries nearby. Reaching 16 century, both the inland Ukraine and the Crimean kingdom people began independent movement from Russia. However, both movements also end up as a failure in a short time.

At 1784, Osman Empire gave the Crimean peninsula to Russia as a result of a Crimean war. Meanwhile, at 1921 -as a result of long independent movement- Ukraine finally got a partial independence form the Russia and built Ukraine-Soviet Republic. About 30...
